In our long history of excellence in caring for cardiac patients we haven’t missed a beat. During this time our heart program has grown to become the largest and most comprehensive in Polk County, offering everything from prevention programs to innovative diagnostics to the medical management of congestive heart failure and complex open heart procedures. In fact, Lakeland Regional offers a medical treatment and education program designed to manage congestive heart failure and limit recurrent admissions. We’ve also assembled a team of some of the Southeast’s most talented cardiovascular surgeons, electrophysiologists and cardiologists. Heart experts who perform more than 9,000 procedures annually. And who offer unmatched experience and knowledge.
Advanced Diagnostics
Getting to the bottom of the problem is half the battle. Our full range of diagnostic tools, including echocardiography, nuclear stress testing and vascular ultrasound allow us to detect heart problems in their earliest stages, improving outcomes and ultimately quality of life. We also have a state-of-the-art catheterization lab for performing diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Interventional Cardiology
Procedures like angioplasty, atherectomy and laser treatments allow us to “step in” to favorably alter the progression of heart disease. In fact, we were the second in the state to bring you drug-eluting stents that reduce the risk of scarring and a later reoccurrence of blockage. We also have electrophysiologists who use special techniques to diagnose and correct heart rhythm disorders. By getting heart problems under control sooner, we are effectively alleviating the need for patients to have major surgical procedures.
Open Heart Procedures
Lakeland Regional was the first in the region to bring you open heart surgery, including less-invasive robotic surgery. As a pioneer in off-pump coronary bypass, our surgeons perform open heart procedures that are less traumatic, require much smaller incisions and cause less harm to surrounding tissue. The advantages are numerous, and you can be sure you’ll find these and other innovative techniques at our heart center.
Continuing Research & Advancements
As leaders in heart care, we are continually searching for new drug therapies, procedures and tools that will improve the quality of life for our patients. Our physicians are actively involved in studies that investigate innovative technology, validate experimental procedures and bring appropriate new treatments to our area.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Whether you’re at risk for heart disease or have already experienced a significant episode, we’re focused on keeping your heart healthy for the long run. Our cardiac rehabilitation program coordinates exercise, diet and education in an effort to maintain your heart’s maximum function. Our doctors, nurses, therapists and dietitians work closely with patients, tailoring a program to each individual’s needs and most importantly, offering support and encouragement.
